reunion home page
Well, we have gotten through another great reunion. Those who made it to this one had a fun time catching up with those we have not seen in quite some years and those we saw only two years ago.
The ninth reunion of the Flying Circus was held in September at St. Charles, Missouri. During the usual selection process to decide where and when to hold this reunion, Tom Kuypers put forward a presentation that easily sold the group on this location. With Tom organising things in St. Charles, and Frank Vanatta again being the center for communications through emails and the web site, plans smoothly came together for the event.
The weather again cooperated during the time spent in St. Charles, and people wandered through the old town area, soaking up the atmosphere. Other groups headed out to nearby sites to check out various attractions and visit St. Louis. The number of members and partners attending this reunion beat the 2004 reunion in Las Vegas by one member, so this reunion is now the record holder. When you add friends and relatives of members attending, this reunion was only beaten by the 2002 reunion in Key West.
The town of St. Charles, and the deal that Tom worked out with the Embassy Suites for our accommodation lived up to the promises that he made. The hotel gave us a separate room where we held the usual Saturday evening function, and this allowed people to make speeches and other announcements when they wished.
Carl Hirlston brought a bottle of Select Single Barrel Jack Daniels with which to make toasts of various types. That went down very smoothly!
Frank Amos was not able to attend this reunion, so he sent along some very nice 1st Cav lapel pins for everybody. The pins were seen being proudly worn all through the area during the event.
The atmosphere at this reunion continued the long tradition of being a very relaxed and congenial gathering where old friends could once again gather and talk over old and new times alike.
